"Man often becomes what he believes himself to be. If I keep on saying to myself that I cannot do a certain thing, it is possible that I may end by really becoming incapable of doing it. On the contrary, if I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning." Mahatma Gandhi.
In this post I will explain the Importance of Looking Your Best and how to do so. This will hopefully inspire you throughout the new year.
Low self esteem is a paradox and an endless cycle. You feel like no one likes you so you dress how you feel: sloppy and sad, yet all you want is to be accepted by others. But when you have high self-esteem you dress elegant and happy, and you seem to become more favored by others. It's kind a convoluted subject isnt it?
"Boys think girls are like books, If the cover doesn't catch their eye they won't bother to read what's inside." -Marilyn Monroe. We can all go around and say that we have never judged a book by its cover, but we are all human and we can't help ourselves when it comes to things like this. But who says that you can't have both inner and outer-beauty? In my opinion, looking your best and presenting yourself in an elegant way represents maturity, confidence, and hey! There is nothing wrong with a little outer-beauty. I'm not saying you should go around judging people by their appearance, but in reality: first impressions are everything. Here are three steps on how you can make sure you look and feel your best for the new year.
Step 1: Confidence.
The fact of the matter is: when you look good, you feel good. When you look good it's no secret that you are more confident, constructive, and enthusiastic.
"Nobody will love you until you love yourself." If you have no self-confidence it is nearly impossible to get other people's attention. It is hard, trust me, I know it is hard but you can fake confidence by simply pushing your shoulders back and putting a smile on your face (and a pair of killer heels ;D.) When you project confidence people always notice.
Step 2: Investing in Yourself
I believe the majority of my readers are between the ages of 15-21. So asking the question: "What do you think is the most important investment you have ever made in your life?" is a little unethical. If I were to ask my father the same question he would probally say: "My house, my education, and my financial investments" and my mom would probably say: "My jewelry, my art, and my health." These are all personal investments. I am not saying that investing in a 2,000 dollar diamond necklace is the way to make youself look and feel better, but throughout life you will come to learn that the most important investments you will make will be the ones that you make for yourself. (Charities are also good too :D)
Step 3: Dress to Impress
Look down right now at what you are wearing. Now think ahead 10 years at what you want to be doing with your life. Are you dressing for your dreams? When you dress to impress you show others that you are prepared to be someone amazing. I mean Oprah doesn't walk around in daisy dukes and a tank top does she?
Imagine this: you are having a party and you dress up in your favorite red dress and your guests dress up in jeans and t-shirts. How would that make you feel? When someone dresses up for you it shows they care about your opinion, your respect, and it proves they took time out of their day to impress you. That is pretty damn flattering to me. Even adding a little mascara, some undereye concelear, and some brow gel shows that you woke up, you cared about the impressions of others, and you wanted to show that in your appearance.
I hope you are all inspired to become the best version of yourself this year. Changing yourself is not what I am advising you to do, but perfecting yourself within your own standards is a great New Years Resolution to me. But remember beauty is not always in your face but in your heart.
